So I use Linux. Arch (and the AUR) in specific. All fine and dandy.
But problem: Linux's cool and all... but people aren't very keen on it.
Why is that?
Now, this is all subjective, I only know so much about the subject, and a lot of this comes from an unreliable grape vine, so please don't take what I say as gospel.
(Also, this entry also assumes that we're looking at a Windows to Linux migration, since Apple fanboys aren't exactly the type to consider anything else.)
However, I think I might have credence here, having used XP, 7, 8, 10, and even 11 for a large portion of my life as far as main workhorses are concerned. But all that being said, here's....
1. It Came With the Computer
Most people don't actually buy Windows like they did back in '95, '98, or even the 2000s.
Rather, nowadays, people buy computers, and Windows is already there for 'em, ready to initialize and install.
Wouldn't really surprise me if a lot of Windows's sales came from OEM support from computer storefronts.
2. Most Things Prefer the Windows API
Programs, Tools, Games, you name it, it's prolly gonna wanna use Windows's API first.
3. Support Reasons
As commercial softare, Windows comes with dedicated tech support, no surprise about that.
But I've seen a LOT of people who've probably never actually seen a computer, or even a laptop before.
And I mean a lot. Call whatever you'd like, if you want.
Naturally, there's a heck of a lot of support pages teaching people how to use even the simplest of concepts as a result.

And as a rather unatural segway, allow me to also list...
This won't have numbers on them, as I don't really have any real ranking for them in mind.
A. A lot of them talk more about whatever stupid thing Microsoft did this week
B. Some of them just turn out to be Apple fanboys if you peel back enough layers?
C.
